Monard, Pretoria, South Africa, reports his discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 16.5) on an unfiltered CCD image taken on July 2.155 UT. The new object, which was confirmed at mag 16.6 (+/- 0.1) on July 3.139, is located at R.A. = 2h36m58s.21, Decl. = -5d20'43".2 (equinox 2000.0), which is 7" west and 14" north of the core of the galaxy MCG -01-7-24. Nothing is visible at this position in Digitized Sky Survey images (limiting red mag 20.5) or on Monard's most recent image of this galaxy taken at his Bronberg Observatory on June 2.150 (limiting mag 18.5). The type-II supernova 2004er also appeared in this galaxy (cf. IAUC 8412).
