Martin, Perth Observatory, reports the discovery of an apparent supernova (red mag 17) in CCD images (limiting mag 18) collected as part of the Perth Automated Supernova Search, using the 0.61-m Perth Lowell telescope, on Oct. 14.84 and 15.83 UT. The new object is located at R.A. = 10h19m39s.25, Decl. = -25o49'21".9 (equinox 2000.0; uncertainty estimated as 0".15), which is 28" west and 29" south of the center of the galaxy NGC 3208. The object was not visible in an image taken on June 14 (limiting red mag 19). Following posting on the Central Bureau's unconfirmed-objects webpage, C. Jacques and E. Pimentel (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) report that a 120-s unfiltered CCD exposure (limiting mag 18.6) taken remotely on Oct. 19.78 (with a 40-cm f/8.4 reflector at the GRAS observatory near Moorook, Australia) yields mag 17.2 and position end figures 39s.26, 19".7 for the new object, adding that nothing is visible at this position on a Digitized Sky Survey image from 1985 Mar. 29 (limiting red mag 19.5).
