Electronic Telegram No. 2747 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION CBAT Director: Daniel W. E. Green; Hoffman Lab 209; Harvard University; 20 Oxford St.; Cambridge, MA 02138; U.S.A. e-mail: cbatiau@eps.harvard.edu (alternate cbat@iau.org) URL http://www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu/index.html Prepared using the Tamkin Foundation Computer Network SUPERNOVA 2011do IN PGC 15078 = PSN J04254756-6748407 Colin Drescher, Calamvale, Queensland, Australia, reports the discovery of an apparent supernova (red mag 14.8) by Stuart Parker (Oxford, Canterbury, New Zealand) on a 30-s unfiltered CCD image taken on June 11.768 UT with a 35-cm Celestron C14 f/6.3 telescope (+ ST10 CCD camera) as part of the Backyard Observatory Supernova Search team. The new object is located at R.A. = 4h25m47s.56, Decl. = -67d48'40".7 (equinox 2000.0; position and magnitude measured by Drescher, using Astrometrica with the USNO-B1.0 catalogue), which is 5" west and 13" north of the nucleus of the galaxy PGC 15078 = ESO 55-23 (and located adjacent to a bright foreground star). The variable was given the designation PSN J04254756-6748407 when posted at the Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2011do based on the spectroscopic report below. A confirming image by Parker showing 2011do was taken on June 12.761 (no additional information provided). Nothing is visible at the position of 2011do on an image taken on 2011 May 29.684 by Parker (limiting red magnitude 18.6) or on a Digitized Sky Survey image from 1992 Dec. 26 (limiting red magnitude 19.7). Joseph Brimacombe, Cairns, Australia, writes that his unfiltered CCD image taken on June 15.775 yields mag 16.3 and position end figures 47s.75, 39".5; his image is posted at the following website URL: http://www.flickr.com/photos/43846774@N02/5838341968/. S. Valenti and S. Benetti, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, on behalf of a larger collaboration, report that a spectrogram (range 330-750 nm; resolution 1.5 nm) of PSN J04254756-6748407 = SN 2011do, obtained on June 24.42 UT with the European Southern Observatory's New Technology Telescope (+ EFOSC), is that of a type-Ia supernova. After cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra via the "GELATO" code (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383; available at website URL https://gelato.tng.iac.es/login.cgi), the spectrum of 2011do appears to be very similar to that of SN 1995al (Asiago Supernova Archive) at 14 days after maximum light.
