Electronic Telegram No. 2837 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION CBAT Director: Daniel W. E. Green; Hoffman Lab 209; Harvard University; 20 Oxford St.; Cambridge, MA 02138; U.S.A. e-mail: cbatiau@eps.harvard.edu (alternate cbat@iau.org) URL http://www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu/index.html Prepared using the Tamkin Foundation Computer Network SUPERNOVA 2011ge IN UGC 11253 = PSN J18294090+2304010 Further to CBET 2772, S. B. Cenko, W. Li, and A. V. Filippenko report the LOSS discovery of an apparent supernova on unfiltered KAIT images: SN 2011 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset 2011ge Sep. 21.14 18 29 40.90 +23 04 01.0 19.5 17".4 E, 5".4 S This variable was designated PSN J18294090+2304010 when it was posted on the Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2011ge based on the spectroscopic report below. Additional KAIT magnitudes for 2011ge: a co- added image from Aug. 2011, [20.5; Sept. 23.15 UT, 19.4. Joseph Brimacombe, Cairns, Australia, has posted an unfiltered CCD image that he took on Sept. 27.199 at website URL http://www.flickr.com/photos/43846774@N02/6193373952/. J. M. Silverman, S. B. Cenko, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of a CCD spectrum (range 340-1000 nm), obtained on Sept. 26 UT with the 10-m Keck I telescope (+ LRIS), shows that PSN J18294090+2304010 = SN 2011ge is a highly reddened type-II supernova. After removal of the host-galaxy recession velocity of 4000 km/s, determined from narrow emission features, the absorption minimum of the H-alpha line is found to be blueshifted by about 17200 km/s.
