Weryk, Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Western Ontario, reports the discovery of another comet in four 45-s w-band survey images obtained with the Pan-STARRS2 1.8-m Ritchey-Chretien reflector at Haleakala on Feb. 24 UT in 1".6 seeing; the condensed coma had a diameter of 2".0 (full-width-at-half-maximum) with a 6" tail in p.a. 290 degrees. The discovery observations are tabulated below, together with numerous pre- discovery Pan-STARRS2 images going back to Jan. 19 that were identifed later by Weryk. 2022 UT R.A. (2000) Decl. Mag. Four 45-s w-band survey images taken on Feb. 6.6 in 1".6 seeing show a condensed coma of size 2".0 (FWHM) in 1".6 seeing, again with a tail about 6" long in p.a. 290 degrees. After the comet was posted on the Minor Planet Center's PCCP webpage, H. Sato (Tokyo, Japan) reports that ten stacked 120-s CCD exposures taken remotely with a 0.43-m f/6.8 astrograph located near Mayhill, NM, USA, on Feb. 28.3 show a moderately condensed, asymmetrical coma 8" in diameter with no tail; the magnitude was 20.3 as measured within a circular aperture of radius 5".7. The available astrometry appears on MPEC 2022-E7. The following orbital elements by S. Nakano (Central Bureau) are from 45 observations spanning Jan. 19-Feb. 28 (mean residual 0".3), with the orbital period still uncertain by a couple of weeks (formal error) -- though this orbit suggests that the comet passed 0.107 AU from Jupiter around 1982 October.
