Electronic Telegram No. 5600 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams Mailing address: Hoffman Lab 209; Harvard University; 20 Oxford St.; Cambridge, MA 02138; U.S.A. e-mail: cbatiau@eps.harvard.edu (alternate cbat@iau.org) URL http://www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu/index.html Prepared using the Tamkin Foundation Computer Network NEW METEOR SHOWER M2025-Q1 IN ARIES D. Vida, University of Western Ontario; and D. Segon, Croatian Meteor Network, report an outburst of meteors with a radiant in Aries. Thirty-three meteors were observed by the Global Meteor Network low-light video cameras during 2025 Aug. 26-27 (cf. URL https://globalmeteornetwork.org/data/). The shower was independently observed by cameras in nineteen countries across the globe (BE, BG, CZ, DE, FR, GR, HR, HU, IT, KR, LU, NL, NZ, RO, RU, SI, SK, UK, US). The shower had a median geocentric radiant at R.A. = 47.53 deg, Decl. = +11.46 deg, within a narrow circle with a standard deviation of +/- 0.4 deg (equinox J2000.0). The radiant drift in R.A. is 0.34 deg on the sky per degree of solar longitude and 0.06 in Decl., both in reference to Sol. = 153.5 deg. The median sun-centered ecliptic coordinates were L-L0 = 257.78 deg, beta = -6.04 deg. The geocentric velocity was high at 68.32 +/- 0.16 km/s. The orbital elements indicate a highly elliptical, retrograde orbit, characteristic of a Halley-type comet: q = 0.804 +/- 0.014 AU, e = 0.94 +/- 0.06, i = 168.7 +/- 0.7 deg, Peri. = 54.7 +/- 2.8 deg, Node = 333.5 +/- 0.4 deg (equinox J2000.0). All meteors appeared during the solar- longitude interval 152.3-153.8 degrees, with a clear peak at 153.38 degrees. A plot of co-added GMN radiant locations for Aug. 26-27 shows a concentration of radiants near the apex source (cf. URL https::tinyurl.com/awwtytcs). A parent-body search with a Drummond D criterion (cf. Drummond 2000, Icarus 146, 453) returned several potential candidates with values of D < 0.15: D = 0.111 for C/1698 R1, D = 0.129 for C/2020 R4, D = 0.130 for C/1946 K1, and D = 0.133 for C/1893 N1. The designation M2025-Q1 was assigned to this shower by the IAU Meteor Data Center.
