S. Sheppard, Carnegie Institution for Science; and D. J. Tholen, University of Hawaii, report that newly discovered transneptunian object 2024 XW_49 (cf. MPEC 2026-A21) is a nearly-equal-sized wide binary system based on images obtained in 2024 with the 8.-2m Subaru telescope at Mauna Kea (Hawaii) and in 2025 with the 6.5-m Magellan telescope at Las Campanas (Chile). At discovery on 2024 Dec. 4.449 UT, the two components had a separation of 1".35 at position angle 45 degrees, with an r-band magnitude difference of 0.6.
