Circular No. 2820 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION Postal Address: Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. Cable Address: SATELLITES, NEWYORK Western Union: RAPID SATELLITE CAMBMASS POSITIONS OF X-RAY SOURCES R. Doxsey, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, reports the following precise positions, obtained with the rotating modulation collimators on SAS-3, for four x-ray sources: R. A. (1950) Decl. Aql X-1 19 08 44.1 + 0 30 51 Ser X-1 18 37 32 + 4 59 20 GX9+9 17 28 50.5 -16 55 57 GX17+2 18 13 11.6 -14 03 10 All positions have 90-percent confidence error radii of 1'. The positions for GX9+9 and GX17+2 are consistent with proposed optical counterparts for those sources (Davidsen, Malina and Bowyer 1975, preprint; Tarenghi and Reina 1972, Nature Phys. Sci. 240, 53), but the new position for Aql X-1 rules out the proposed identification of Davidsen et al. (see also IAUC 2793). WILD'S VARIABLE OBJECT D. Wills, Department of Astronomy, University of Texas, writes: "A direct IIa-O plate of Wild's variable, possible BL Lac-type object (IAUC 2791) obtained by H. J. Smith with the McDonald Observatory's 213-cm reflector on Aug. 7 shows it to be much brighter than on the Palomar Sky Survey plates, with an apparently stellar image. An image-tube spectrogram was obtained by Wills on Aug. 10 with the 270-cm reflector, when the object was visually estimated at magnitude 15.0-15.5. The spectrum is Seyfert-like, with strong, broad Balmer emission (H-alpha to H-delta) and sharp [O III] 4959, 5007 A at a redshift of 0.123 (34 600 km/s)." JUPITER XIII Dr. Elizabeth Roemer, University of Arizona, provides the following precise position, obtained from a 90-min exposure with the Steward Observatory's 229-cm reflector on Kitt Peak. R. A. McCallister assisted. Measurer: Carolyn C. McCarthy. 1975 UT R. A. (1950) Decl. Aug. 7.42060 1 29 21.59 +80 18 19.6 1975 August 19 (2820) Brian G. Marsden
