PERIODIC COMET VAN HOUTEN (1961 X)
The orbital elements below, by G. Sitarski, Warsaw University,
are based on the eight observations made in 1960, perturbations by
all nine planets being taken into account. Although very similar
results have been obtained by others (e.g., S. Nakano, R. J.
Buckley and B. G. Marsden), the uncertainty in P amounts to more
than three mnonths. The three-observation orbit by Herget (1966,
Bull. Astron. Inst. Neth. 18, 441) leads to T = 1977 Feb. 15-20.
The comet's total magnitude should attain 17.0-17.5.
