Cable Address: SATELLITES, NEWYORK Telex: 921428 Telephone: (617) 864-5758 SUPERNOVA IN NGC 3226 A. R. Klemola, Lick Observatory, reports that he has discovered a supernova on plates taken by B. F. Jones with the 51-cm double astrograph on 1976 Dec. 21. The supernova, of blue magnitude 17, is located 27" east and 22" north of the nucleus of the elliptical galaxy NGC 3226 but is possibly associated with the neighboring Seyfert galaxy NGC 3227. The object was confirmed and at about the same brightness on an exposure by E. A. Harlan on 1977 Jan. 13. NOVA VULPECULAE 1976 C. A. Whitney, Center for Astrophysics, provides the following photoelectric observations, made with the 40-cm reflector at the Harvard College Observatory's Agassiz Station. Measures are relative to HD 182293, for which the following values were determined from observations on five nights: V = 7.18, B-V = +1.15. These data supersede earlier reports. 1976 UT V B-V 1976 UT V B-V Oct. 29.05 7.05 +1.08 Nov. 19.02 7.75 +1.08 Nov. 5.01 8.27 +1.21 21.00 7.86 +1.11 9.05 7.89 +1.05 27.99 8.44 +1.02 11.02 7.77 +1.10 Dec. 1.01 8.53 +1.07 12.04 7.53 +1.17 1.93 8.52 +0.99 13.98 7.50 +1.09 3.98 8.12 +0.99 14.98 7.40 +1.10 5.95 8.52 +1.04 17.01 7.58 +1.13 9.95 8.56 +1.03 Recent visual magnitude estimates: 1976 Dec. 29.09 UT, 10.9 (R.
