J. Bortle, Brooks Observatory, and S. O'Connor, Montreal, Quebec,
have independently reported that this Z And variable is having
an outburst. Visual magnitude estimates: Jan. 17.0, 9.2 (Bortle);
29.0, 9.3 (Bortle); Feb. 9.0, 9.4 (Bortle); 13.1, 9.1 (O'Connor).
J. Mattei informs us that AAVSO observations show the magnitude to
have varied only between 11.4 and 12.9 since 1969 and that the star
seems still to have been faint at the beginning of Jan. 1978.
1978 February 24 (3178) Brian G. Marsden
