A 10-min exposure on Mar. 2 showed a tail 40' long (to
edge of plate) in p.a. 330o. A 25-min exposure on Mar. 3 showed
the main tail 70' long in p.a. 332o, with narrow spines extending
10' in p.a. 327o and 15' in p.a. 337o.
C. Torres (Cerro Calan Observatory). Measurer: M. Wischnjewsky.

S. A. Ilovaisky, C. Motch and C. Chevalier, Observatoire de
Meudon, report that Fourier analysis of fast (0.9-s resolution)
photometry of McClintock et al's suggested optical candidate (a
blue star of V = 18.6) for the 7.7-s x-ray pulsar 4U 1626-67,
obtained with the European Southern Observatory's 360-cm reflector in
white light on May 3, shows optical pulsations with a period of
(7.681 +/- 0.008) s and a full amplitude of 2 percent. The pulse
light curve shows a broad pulse with an indication of structure.
The above value of the period is fully consistent with an extrapolation
of the SAS-3 x-ray period using the spin-up rate derived by
Rappaport et al. (1977, Astrophys. J. 217, L29).
