COMET HANEDA-CAMPOS (1978j)
     J. C. Bennett, Astronomical Society of Southern Africa,
reports the discovery of a comet by Jose da Silva Campos, as shown
below. A message received subsequently from K. Hurukawa, Tokyo
Astronomical Observatory, reports that the comet was discovered
independently by Toshio Haneda. Available observations follow:

T. Haneda (Haranomachi, Fukushima). 8.5-cm refractor.
J. da S. Campos (Durban, South Africa).
R. E. McCrosky and G. Schwartz (Harvard College Observatory, Agassiz
Station). 155-cm reflector and 41-cm astrograph.
D. Herald (Kambah, near Canberra).

A0535+26
     L. Kaluzienski and S. Holt, Goddard Space Flight Center, report
that a strong x-ray outburst from a position consistent with
that of the recurrent transient in Taurus, A0535+26, has been
detected with the Ariel 5 all-sky monitor. Onset occurred some time
during Aug. 2-5, with fluxes (3-6 keV) <~ 0.2 and ~ 0.4 times the
Crab Nebula being measured on Aug. 1 and 6, respectively. By Aug.
10 the flux had increased to ~ 0.7 times the Crab, and the source
was still bright on Aug. 17.

PERIODIC COMET ASHBROOK-JACKSON (1977g)
Further total visual magnitude estimates by J. Bortle, Brooks
Observatory (32-cm reflector Aug. 11.34 UT, 12.0; 30.34, 11.6;
Sept. 2.31, 11.6. On Aug. 30 the coma diameter was ~ 0'.9; there
was a strong condensation and a tail 3' long in p.a. 233o.
