U SCORPII
The Carter Observatory relays information from F. M. Bateson,
Variable Star Section, Royal Astronomical Society of New Zealand,
that O. Hull has observed an outburst of the recurrent nova U Sco.
Visual magnitude estimates are: Mar. 23.70 UT, 12.8; 24.70, 12.5.
At its previously recorded outbursts in 1863, 1906 and 1936 the
nova attained mv ~ 9. At minimum mpg ~ 18.

SUPERNOVA IN NGC 3913
     R. Kirshner, Department of Astronomy, University of Michigan,
reports that an observation by C. Canizares at McGraw-Hill Observatory
on Mar. 26.25 UT gave B ~ 13.5. Spectrophotometry showed the
supernova to be of type I and shortly past maximum light.

U GEMINORUM
     R. J. Panek, Pennsylvania State University, writes that
observations with the 150-cm telescope showed U Gem at V = 13.2 on Mar.
23d06h UT; a primary eclipse on Mar. 23d02h43m had a depth of 0.15
magnitude and a width of about 19 min.

Further visual magnitude estimates: Mar. 25.27 UT, 8.9 (P. L.
Collins, Tucson, AZ); 26.13, 8.9 (R. Ariail, Columbia, SC).

NOTICE CONCERNING OBSERVATIONS AND EPHEMERIDES OF COMETS
Subscribers are now reminded that routine cometary information
is generally no longer published in the IAUC. Astrometric observations,
orbital elements and ephemerides are now included in the MPC
(Minor Planet Circulars/Minor Planets and Comets), information
about which can be obtained from the above address. Photometric
observations received by us are now generally being forwarded for
publication in the ICQ (International Comet Quarterly), information
about which can be obtained from the Editor, D. W. E. Green, who
can be contacted through the Central Bureau or at the address 721 S.
Elmwood Avenue, Oak Park, IL 60304, U.S.A. The observational data
are also being collected in machine-readable files. Urgent cometary
information (discoveries, recoveries, preliminary orbits and
ephemerides, unusual activity, etc.) and other physical observations
will of course continue to be published in the IAUC and to be
disseminated frequently also by telegram.
