Circular No. 3351 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION Postal Address: Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. TWX 710-320-6842 ASTROGRAM CAM Telephone 617-864-5758 H 0622-529 G. R. Riegler and P. C. Agrawal, Jet Propulsion Laboratory; and G. P. Garmire, California Institute of Technology, report the detection of x-radiation from a source H 0622-529 with the low-energy detectors of the HEAO A-2 experiment. The source is highly variable: it was detected only during 1977 Oct. 6-9 and could not be found again in 1978 Apr. In the 0.4-3-keV band the average flux was (3.1 +/- 0.7) x 10**-11 erg cm**-2 s**-1; the source was not detected in the 0.15-0.4-keV band. The error box is centered at R.A. = 6h22m.5, Decl. = -52o57'.6 (equinox 1950.0), with 90-percent-confidence extent +/- 0o.44 in ecliptic latitude and +/- 2o.7 perpendicular thereto. No unambiguous identification is available, but it should be noted that the nearby bright star alpha Car is near the center of the error box. SUPERNOVA IN NGC 4321 G. F. O. Schnur, European Southern Observatory, reports on spectroscopic observations made of this object on Apr. 21. They were obtained at a dispersion of 171 A/mm and covered the range 3825-7100 A. The 360-cm telescope was used, an image-dissector scanner being attached to a Poller and Chivens spectrograph. On top of a rather blue continuum H-alpha, H-beta, H-gamma and possibly H-delta were detected in emission, together with absorption features shifted by ~ 35 A blueward of H-alpha and H-beta. The radial velocity of the emission peaks agrees with the known radial velocity of NGC 4321. The emission band at 5900 A can be identified with He I. A strong absorption feature of width 30 A is detected at 5130 A. Further visible absorption and emission features remain to be identified. A further spectrogram obtained on Apr. 22 by H. Pederson with the same equipment shows small variations from the Apr. 21 observations. NOTICE CONCERNING TELEGRAMS It is once again an 'open season' for making changes in the lists of subscribers to the Central Bureau's telegram service. This applies principally to deletions, address changes and changes in the manner (TWX/telex vs. public message vs. mailgram vs. cablegram) telegrams are received. Those subscribers who wish to make changes of this type are requested to inform the Central Bureau of said changes by May 31. 1979 April 24 (3351) Brian G. Marsden
