Shao, Harvard College Observatory, reports the following precise positions, obtained with the 155-cm reflector: 1979 UT R. A. (1950) Decl. m1 July 3.25178 19 41 29.00 -10 34 20.7 18 3.28287 19 41 26.77 -10 34 01.2 The comet is very diffuse, with condensation and a round coma. VV PUPPIS N. Visvanathan and D. T. Wickramasinghe, Mount Stromlo and Siding Spring Observatories, telex: "Spectroscopic observations of the dwarf nova VV Pup in the range 3600-7000 A were made for 1-hr duration on June 14 and 15 beginning at 8h24m UT with the 400-cm Anqlo-Australian telescope using an image-dissector scanner attached to the Boller and Chivens spectrograph; the visual magnitude was 13.90. Strong emission lines of H I; He I; He II 4686, 5412 and 4542 A; and the C III-N III blend near 4650 A are seen in the spectra. Intensities of the lines H-alpha, He I 4472 A and He II 4686 A on June 14 are 13, 5 and 13 x 10**-14 erg cm**-2 s**-1, respectively. The flux ratio for H-alpha/H-beta, H-gamma/H-beta and He I 5876/4471 A are 0.7, 1.1 and 1.1, respectively. These ratios are inverted compared to their recombination ratios, indicating high densities and collisional excitation in the line emission region. However, the emitting region is optically thin in the higher excitation lines as given by the ratio of the lines He II 5412 to 4686 A. VV Pup has not previously been seen spectroscopically in such an active phase. The spectra strongly resemble those of AM Her (Stockman et al. 1977, Astrophys. J. 217, 815) during its bright phase, when x-rays have been observed, and we strongly urge x-ray observations of VV Pup." NOVALIKE OBJECT IN VULPECULA S. S. Mims, III, James-Mims Observatory, and T. L. Mullikin, Indiana University, report photoelectric observations of this object (cf. IAUC 3348, etc.) with the 69-cm (June 9) and 107-cm (June 15) telescopes at Lowell Observatory: June 9.3 UT, V = 8.93, B-V = 0.47, U-B = 0.26; 15.2, V = 8.9. 1979 July 20 (3380) Daniel W. E. Green
