SS 433
     B. Margon, S. A. Grandi and R. A. Downes, University of California
at Los Angeles, write that analysis of observations of the
moving spectral lines in SS 433 made on 160 nights during 1978
June-1980 Feb. does not show the 6-day periodicity discussed by Newsom
and Collins on IAUC 3459. An upper limit on such an effect, obtained
by superposing a sine wave with this period upon the actual
data, is that such a period of amplitude 10 percent of the dominant
164-day variation would be easily detectable. Further, analysis of
a pure sine wave with period 164 days sampled at the identical
times of the California observations does show a 6.5-day period
rather strongly, indicating conclusively that in these data this
period is an artifact of the very nonuniform spacing of the
observations, which is dominated by diurnal and lunar periods.

theta OPHIUCHI
     D. Ebbets, University of Texas, reports that observations at
the McDonald Observatory show that the rapidly rotating O-type star
theta Oph is undergoing another episode of emission, similar to that
observed in 1974. On Mar. 28 both H-alpha and the He 587.6 and 567.8-nm
lines were observed to have double emissions.

4U 1608-52
     M. Oda, Institute of Space and Aeronautical Science, University
of Tokyo, communicates: "The X-Ray Burster 4U 1608-52 (cf.
IAUC 3349) has been burst active since Hakucho started observation
of this source on Apr. 2. Two bursts were recorded on Apr. 2d22h41m
and 8d17h05m UT with a peak flux of 5.2 and 6.6 Crab, respectively.
Persistent emission is below the detection limit of ~ 10 Uhuru."

NOTICE TO CONTRIBUTORS
Some contributors are still sending telex and TWX messages for
the Central Bureau to the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory's
telex machine, rather than to the Central Bureau's own TWX machines.
This results in both delay and inconvenience. Please use the TWX
number 710-320-6842 (answerback ASTROGRAM CAM), also as the
principal part of the address in messages sent by telegram or cablegram.
