Sept. 6.71181 3 13 36.5 -35 04 41 ~17 6.75694 3 13 33.7 -35 06 23 7.58027 3 12 49.4 -35 36 59 7.59416 3 12 48.5 -35 37 30 The object appears as a fuzzy trail with signs of a tail. Parabolic orbital elements, by the undersigned, which satisfy the above positions to within 0".7, were used for the ephemeris: 1981 ET R. A. (1950) Decl. Delta r Mag. Middleditch, Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, University of California; and A. Koski and M. Burbidge, University of California at San Diego, write: "Photometric and spectroscopic observations of the optical candidate for the x-ray binary pulsar 4U 0115+634 (cf. IAUC 3171) taken on Aug. 11 and 13 with the 0.9-m Crossley and 3.08-m Shane telescopes at Lick Observatory show this star to be in an unusually faint state with mv ~ 16.3. A preliminary comparison of the spectrum with the earlier spectrum (ibid.) reveals no particularly strong change in color (B-V ~ +1.5 now). Analyses of the time series taken on both nights in 1980 show no modulation > 0.4 percent of the broadband light from this star was found with periods near 3.61 s. Previous photometric observations of this source in its brtghter state made on 1978 Oct. 11 at Lick and on 1979 July 25 at Kitt Peak National Observatory also show no modulation > 0.25 percent was found with periods near 3.61 s (i.e., above 0.5 percent of its current light level). Observers with data on this source between 1979 July and 1980 Aug. are urged to communicate with Koski (telephone 714-452-2664) or Middleditch (505-667-3904, FTS 843-3904). Further observations of this star are needed." 1980 September 8 (3510) Daniel W. E. Green
