COMET BUS (1981d)
Schelte J. Bus, California Institute of Technology, reports
his discovery of another comet, using the 0.46-m Schmidt telescope
at Palomar. The object is diffuse with condensation and no tail.
The following observations are available:

     1981 UT R. A. (1950) Decl. m1 Observer
     Apr. 26.317 15 26.7 - 6 45 ~16.5 Bus
          28.284 15 17.9 - 6 25 Kowal

Bus was assisted by E. Howell for the discovery plate. The confirmation
plate was taken by C. Kowal using the 1.2-m Palomar Schmidt telescope.

COMET ELIAS (1981c)
     J. H. Elias, Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory, reports
his available observations of this comet, made using the 0.6-m
Curtis Schmidt telescope (measured by Hernandez):

     1981 UT R. A. (1950) Decl.
     Apr. 3.016 11 19 17.82 -77 10 12.6
           3.134 11 18 54.62 -77 08 24.4
           4.011 11 16 10.14 -76 56 25.5
           4.132 11 15 49.66 -76 54 24.8
           4.141 11 15 47.76 -76 54 22.9

PERIODIC COMET SCHWASSMANN-WACHMANN 1
C.-Y. Shao, Center for Astrophysics, reports another brightness
outburst of this comet. A plate taken at Agassiz on April
23.12 UT shows the object at m1 ~ 11, with a very strong condensation
embedded in a round and compact coma of diameter ~ 30". The
shape and structure of the comatic material indicates that this outburst
is quite different in character from that in February (cf.
IAUC 3573; Sky Tel. 1981 61, 390).
     G. M. Hurst, Wellingborough, England, telexes that J. Merlin,
Le Creusot France, has independently discovered the outburst on
Apr. 22.85 UT at magnitude 10.3.

1981 April 29 (3598) Daniel W. E. Green
