Circular No. 3700 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION Postal Address: Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. TWX 710-320-6842 ASTROGRAM CAM Telephone 617-864-5758 PERIODIC COMET CHURYUMOV-GERASIMENKO (1982f) J. Gibson, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, reports his recovery of this comet on exposures with the 1.2-m Schmidt telescope at Palomar as follows: 1982 UT R. A. (1950) Decl. m1 May 31.45492 23 52 44.17 - 8 18 37.3 18.5-19 June 1.45492 23 54 29.91 - 8 08 54.6 The object is essentially stellar in appearance. The predictions by S. W. Milbourn (BAA Handb. for 1982, p. 75; MPC 6535) and S. Nakano (Nakano Note No. 323) require correction by Delta-T = +0.03 day. OH 205.1-14.1 I. Kazes, F. Biraud and J.-P. Drouhin. Meudon Observatory, report that since the 1980 flare of the unusual OH maser OH 205.1-14.1 described by Kazes et al. on IAUC 3502 the left circular polarization of the 1667-MHz radiation has undergone a dramatic change. In 1981 an increase in intensity up to 40 Jy was observed with the Nancay radio telescope. In 1982 Apr. the polarized component at l.s.r. velocity 13.9 km/s decreased to intensity 4 Jy. A second maser, which had probably evolved over an interval of a few months, appeared at velocity 13.6 km/s with intensity 5 Jy. In the Interval 13.0-14.5 km/s any right circularly polarized component is smaller than 0.2 Jy. With a resolution of 0.009 km/s of the autocorrelator, the width of the masers has been measured to be 0.12 0.02 km/s. PERIODIC COMET GUNN A. Hale, Costa Mesa, CA, communicates the following total magnitude estimates, made visually with a 0.20-m reflector: May 22.28 UT, 13.3-13.5; 23.32, 13.3-13.5. Ephemeris on MPC 6211. PERIODIC COMET GRIGG-SKJELLERUP (1982a) Further total visual magnitude estimates: May 14.19 UT, 11 (Hale); 22.09, 9.9 (J. Bortle, Stormville, NY, 0.32-m reflector); 22.19, 10.0-10.5 (Hale); 26.09, 9.6 (Bortle); 26.11, 9.8 (C. S. Morris, Harvard, MA, 0.15-m reflector); 27.08, 9.8 (Morris). 1982 June 3 (3700) Brian G.
