Circular No. 3770 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION Postal Address: Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. TWX 710-320-6842 ASTROGRAM CAM Telephone 617-864-5758 NO SUPERNOVA IN NGC 1265 Several astronomers have pointed that the object described on IAUC 3769 is in fact a foreground star of late spectral type. SUPERNOVA IN ANONYMOUS GALAXY A telex from the Asiago Astrophysical Observatory reports the discovery on Feb. 4 by M. Turatto of a probable supernova, of mag 17, 12" west and 10" south of the nucleus of an anonymous galaxy at R.A. = 11h07m5, Decl. = +58deg40' (equinox 1950.0). PERIODIC COMET HALLEY (1982i) Another position has been measured by R. M. West from a 45- min exposure by H. Pedersen with the 1.5-m Danish reflector at the European Southern Observatory, using a CCD and 400-700-nm filter: 1983 UT R.A. (1950.0) Decl. Jan. 14.25508 6 42 02.18 + 9 20 12.9 The visual magnitude (calibrated by Ross 899) was 23.5 +/- 0.3. It seems probable that the object varies intrinsically in brightness. RADIO PULSAR IN MSH 15-52 In the title of the item on IAUC 3704 this object was erroneously given as MSH 15-32. In line 4 the reference should be given as Ap.J. 256, L45. TY PISCIUM M. Verdenet, Bourbon-Lancy, France, writes that this object (cf. IAUC 3740, 3747) was again at mag 12.2-12.3 on Jan. 10/11. NOTICE CONCERNING TELEGRAMS It is once again an 'open season' for making changes in the list of subscribers to the Central Bureau's telegram service. Subscribers who wish to make address changes, category changes, etc., are requested to inform us of said changes by Mar. 31. We regret that a charge of $50.00 must be made for address changes and deletions (but not additions) outside these biannual seasons. 1983 February 10 (3770) Brian G. Marsden
