Circular No. 3834 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION Postal Address: Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. TWX 710-320-6842 ASTROGRAM CAM Telephone 617-864-5758 1983 LC Observations of 1983 LC by J. Gibson with the 1.2-m Schmidt telescope at Palomar, given below, indicate that this object is an Apollo-type minor planet. Approximate elements (with a = 2.5 AU, assumed) from 4 available observations are: T = 1983 Aug. 15.683 ET, Peri. = 185.03 deg, Node = 158.75 deg, Incl. = 1.49 deg, e = 0.6922 (equinox 1950.0). 1983 UT R.A. K. Kristensen has revised the prediction for this event (B.A.A. Hdbk. for 1983, p. 30) using an orbit of (51) improved by recent observations and a new position of 14 Psc derived by R. Bien and H. Schwan from the data at the Astronomisches Rechen- Institut. The critical minimum geocentric separation between planet and star is 1".11 +/- 0".08 (m.e.) on Sept. 11.32806 ET (+/- 6s). With daily motions -49s722 and -584".33, distance 1.5186 AU, and Delta-T = 53s7, the occultation track is as shown below, where the longitudes and further increments are measured west and north, the increments corresponding to a 2-sigma increase in the minimum separation. The times are in minutes past Sept. 11d07h00m UT. Kristensen ( address Institute of Physics, University of Aarhus, DK-8000 Aarhus C, Denmark) urgently requests further observations. Long. Lat. Long.
