France: 1983 Dec. 11.7, 12.8; 14.7, 13.5; 17.7, ]12.5; 20.7, 13.4:.
1983 XF
This object, discovered by E. Bowell at the Lowell Observatory's
Anderson Mesa Station on 1983 Dec. 1 (MPC 8372) and independently
by A. Mrkos at the Klet Observatory on Dec. 4, seems to
be of asteroidal appearance but has a decidedly cometary orbit. A
60-min exposure on 1984 Jan. 2 by E. Everhart with the stopped-
down 0.4-m reflector at the Chamberlin Observatory's Field Station
showed no trace of coma or tail. Observations and orbital elements
(which indicate passage within 0.4 AU of Jupiter in 1926) follow:
