This minor planet with direct opposition motion, discovered
by E. Helin and R. S. Dunbar with the 1.2-m Schmidt at Palomar (MPC
8509), has been reobserved by J. Gibson with the same instrument:

Like 1983 XF, 1983 SA and 1982 YA (latest orbits are on MPC
8467, 8394 and 8534), 1984 BC has a decidedly cometary orbit. An
approach within 0.7 AU of Jupiter is indicated for early 1986:

P. Whitelock, South African Astronomical Observatory, telexes:
"Spectrograms obtained by J. Menzies on Feb. 23 and 26 show
very strong H-alpha emission. Other emissions are due to H-beta, H-gamma
and He lines. These observations are in complete contrast to those
reported on IAUC 3885 and suggest that activity has restarted."
1984 February 27 (3919) Brian G. Marsden
