P. Wild (Zimmerwald). The July 8 image, which showed a bright
asymmetric coma and fanshaped tail extending ~ 1' westward, had
been noted at the time but dismissed as a defect since there
was no similar image on the July 6 film. The July 6 image,
found after the first orbit was available, consisted of a
distinct nucleus (m2 = 17) in a very tenuous coma.
A. Mrkos and Z. Vavrova (Klet). 0.6-m Maksutov telescope.
D. Balam (University of Victoria). 0.25-m f/2 Schmidt.
L. Kornos and P. Rychtarcik (Skalnate Pleso Observatory).
D. McAdam (Madeley, Telford). Measured by P. Birtwhistle.
T. Seki (Geisei). The remark on IAUC 3971 about the July 26
observation should be disregarded. The magnitude m1 = 6.5 (
comparable to SAO 164249) given on IAUC 3970 is correct.
J. Churms (South African Astronomical Observatory, Cape Town).
