Schmidt Telescope Unit, reports his discovery of a comet with the 1.2-m Schmidt telescope at Siding Spring. The plate shows the object as having a faint halo around its trail, magnitude ~ 15. The following positions are available: 1984 UT R.A. (1950.0) Decl. Nov. 17.62186 5 06 26.98 -10 25 16.9 23.73112 5 01 12.41 -11 43 45.8 COMET SHOEMAKER (1984u) E. Bowell, Lowell Observatory, provides the following precise positions from plates taken by B. A. Skiff, with measurements by S. J. Bus. The Nov. 18 pre-discovery plates show the comet as diffuse with condensation and no tail. The declination is uncertain on the first Nov. 27 position. 1984 UT R.A.
