     T. A. Morley writes that this comet is currently considered
to be the most attractive candidate for the retargeting of the
GIOTTO spacecraft and therefore points out the need for extensive
and reliable astrometric observations. Further information can be
obtained from him at the address: ESOC, Robert-Bosch-Str. 5, D-6100

X-RAY NOVA
     R. H. McNaught, Siding Spring Observatory, reports that his
rather incomplete visual examination on Mar. 13 showed no obvious
change to mag 14 in the vicinity of the x-ray position given on
IAUC 4342. Further, nothing unusual showed to mag 10 on patrol
films taken on four nights during 1986 Nov. 22-28 and to mag 11.5
on 35 nights between Dec. 5 and 1987 Mar. 12.
SUPERNOVA 1987A IN THE LARGE MAGELLANIC CLOUD
Further visual magnitude estimates: Mar. 14.44 UT, 4.3 (T.
Beresford, Adelaide, South Australia); 15.46, 4.3 (G. Garradd,
Tamworth, N.S.W.); 16.50, 4.0 (Beresford).
1987 March 16 (4346) Brian G. Marsden
