COMET SHOEMAKER-HOLT (1987z)
Carolyn S. and Eugene M. Shoemaker and Henry Holt report their
discovery of a comet on films obtained with the 0.46-m Schmidt
telescope at Palomar, as indicated below. The object is strongly
condensed, with a slight coma asymmetric toward the southwest.

COMET MUELLER (1987a1)
Jean Mueller reports her discovery of a comet with the 1.22-m
Schmidt telescope at Palomar in the course of the second Palomar
Sky Survey. A confirming plate was taken on Oct. 19 by N. Reid and
Mueller. The object is diffuse with condensation and an apparent
tail to the south-southwest of length about 20"-30". The following
semi-accurate measurements of the ends of trails are by A. Maury:

  1987 UT R. A. (1950) Decl. m1 Observer

1987 SY
     D. I. Olsson-Steel and B. A. Lindblad, Lund Observatory,
communicate: "1987 SY may be the parent of the delta Leonid meteor
shower. The theoretical radiant at closest approach around Feb. 18 is
R.A. = 156 deg, Decl. = 19 deg, velocity = 22 km/s.  This is very close
to the shower radiant found in the Harvard photographic survey (Lindblad
1971, Smithsonian Contrib. Astrophys. 12, 21). Direct orbital
comparisons support the link."

PERIODIC COMET BROOKS 2 (1987m)
Total visual magnitude estimates (L = reflector): Sept. 23.38
UT, 13.9 (R. Keen, Boulder, CO, 0.32-m L); 27.27, 12.8 (C. Morris,
Lockwood, Valley, CA, 0.26-m L); Oct. 1.34, 12.5 (Keen); 16.31,
12.6 (A. Hale, Las Cruces, NM, 0.41-m L); 18.28, 12.4 (Morris).
