COMET SHOEMAKER (1988b)
Carolyn and Eugene Shoemaker report the discovery of their
twelfth comet. The following positions are available:

C. and E. Shoemaker (Palomar). 0.46-m Schmidt telescope films.
Comet diffuse with no central condensation.
J. Mueller (Palomar). 1.2-m Oschin Schmidt telescope. Image
"kinked" due to mirror motion; 5' tail toward p.a. 10 deg. Measured
  by A. Maury (semiaccurate positions).

SUPERNOVA 1988D IN MCG +0-20-006
     R. Lenzen, D. Lutz, and U. Hopp, Max-Planck-Institut fur
Astronomie, Heidelberg, telex: "We confirm the SN 1988D in MCG
+0-20-006 by observations obtained Feb. 11 at Calar Alto Observatory.
Johnson magnitudes obtained Feb. 11.85 UT with the 3.5-m telescope
(+ CCD): V = 17.8, B-V = +0.5, V-R = +0.6. Low-resolution
CCD spectroscopy (0.36 nm/pixel, range 390-700 nm) obtained with
the 2.2-m telescope yields a spectrum that resembles that of a
type-I supernova about 20 days after maximum."
