Sahu and D. Carter, Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos, communicate: "The 2.5-m Isaac Newton Telescope was used to obtain spectra of SN 1989L. Intermediate dispersion spectra (R = 1000) with a coverage of about 100 nm around the H-beta line were obtained on June 4.2 and 6.15 UT, and a low resolution spectrum (R = 1000) in the range 350-750 nm was obtained on June 5.15. The spectra show strong P-Cyg profiles of the Balmer lines and suggest that the supernova is of type II. The outflow velocity, corresponding to the difference between the rest wavelength in the galaxy's frame and the minimum of the absorption dip, is about 5000 km/s." 3C 345 M. T. Carini and H. R. Miller, Georgia State University; and A. C. Sadun, Agnes Scott College, write: "We have observed 3C 345 in an exceptionally faint state. The observations were made with the Lowell Observatory 1.07-m telescope (+ nitrogen-cooled CCD camera). The magnitude and colors observed on May 18 are: V = 17.49, B-V = +0.24, V-R = +0.26, R-I = +0.43. Additional observations of this object are encouraged."
