V1333 AQUILAE (AQUILA X-1)
S. A. Ilovaisky and C. Chevalier, Observatoire de Haute
Provence, write: "CCD photometry of the optical counterpart of
this transient x-ray burst source obtained with the OHP 1.2-m
reflector reveals that the object was bright (V = 17.4) on
Sept. 30.8 UT. Observations on the two following nights show
that it rapidly declined in brightness (V = 18.3 on Oct. 2.8).
These observations, and the fact that the object was still in
quiescence on Aug. 5.0, imply that we have observed the tail of an
unreported x-ray outburst that probably started in late Aug./early
Sept. The time interval between the last reported outburst
in 1988 Nov.-Dec. (IAUC 4675, 4687) and the present one does not
agree with the underlying 122- to 125-day cycle suggested by
Priedhorsky and Terrell (1984, Ap.J. 280, 661). Further
observations, particularly in x-rays, would be useful."
1989 October 3 (4870) Daniel W. E. Green
