SUPERNOVA 1990Q IN NGC 5917
     S. Benetti, E. Cappellaro, and M. Turatto, Asiago Astrophysical
Observatory, communicate: "A CCD spectrum of SN 1990Q was
obtained on June 27.92 UT with the Asiago 1.82-m telescope. The
spectrum is dominated by the emission of H-alpha centered at 656
nm with the relatively weak P-Cyg absorption at 642 nm, indicating
a type-II supernova."
     M. Della Valle, European Southern Observatory, reports:
"Preliminary inspection of low-resolution CCD spectra (range 300-
900 nm), obtained on June 28.1 UT with the ESO 3.6-m telescope at
La Silla, finds P-Cyg profiles for Balmer lines and Na I (587 nm)
and indicates the supernova is of type II. The peak of the H-
alpha emission appears blueshifted at about 653.5 nm in the galaxy
rest frame. The expansion velocity corresponding to the difference
between the rest wavelength in the galaxy's frame and the
minimum of the absorption is about 7000 km/s. The redshift of
the host galaxy is z = 0.0053."

SUPERNOVA 1990N IN NGC 4639
     C. Pennypacker, S. Perlmutter, and C. K. Smith, The Berkeley
Supernova Search Team, note that SN 1990N was not present at the
95-percent confidence level, down to magnitude V = 17.0 on a CCD
image of NGC 4639 taken at Leuschner Observatory on June 13.27 UT.
