NOVA MUSCAE 1991
M. J. Kesteven, Australia Telescope National Facility; and A.
J. Turtle, University of Sydney, report: "Radio observations of Nova
Mus 1991 yield the following provisional flux densities measured
with the Compact Array of the Australia Telescope, given in mJy for
8640, 4740, 2368, and 1472 MHz on each date, respectively (assistance
with the observations given by S. W. Amy and A. Burgess, University
of Sydney; the letter A denotes a flux density averaged over
several hr; D = A + noticeable decline over the averaging interval):
Jan. 18.0 UT, 94 (D), 137 (D), 162 (D), 175 (D); Jan. 18.8, 60 (D),
86 (D), 111, -; Jan. 19.5, 18, 30, 40, 50; Jan. 19.8, 13, 22, 32,
36; Jan. 20.4, 9, 12, 18, 11; Jan. 21.0, 2, 7, 9, 13; Jan. 21.5, 4,
5, 6, 10; Jan. 22.4, 3, 3, 2, 2; Jan. 22.7, -, 3, -, -; Jan. 31.7,
-, 35 (A), -, -; Feb. 2.7, 20 (D), 33 (D), -, -; Feb. 3.7, 9, 18, -,
-. Provisional flux densities in mJy obtained with the Molonglo
Observatory Synthesis Telescope at 843 MHz (assistance with the
observations given by D. Campbell-Wilson and J. D. Webb, University of
Sydney) are as follows: Jan. 18.8, 126 (D); 21.7, 6 (A); 22.7, 3
(A); 23.7, 25 (D); 24.7, 3 (A); 25.9, 4; 26.9, 0; 29.7, 21 (A);
30.7, 23 (A); 31.7, 45 (A); Feb. 1.9, 60; 4.8, 16 (A). Linear
polarization of about 5 percent was detected at 8640 and 4740 MHz on
Jan. 18.0 and about 10 percent at 4740 MHz on Jan. 31.7. Circular
polarization was not detected (< 5 percent) at 4740 MHz on Jan.
18.0. Note that though the initial measurements have a fairly
steady decay, data obtained after Jan. 22 show an irregular
behavior only partly sampled by the observations."
NGC 2346
L. Kohoutek, Hamburg Observatory, telexes: "UBV photoelectric
observations at the European Southern Observatory show another
decline in the nucleus brightness of the planetary nebula NGC 2346
(cf. IAUC 3667), the minimum occurring on Jan. 11.0 UT (depth in V:
0.08 mag; duration about 3 nights). A further minimum of similar
depth (observed by L. Mantegazza and L. Kohoutek) occured probably
between Jan. 24.5 and 27.5. Details will be published in the IBVS."
PERIODIC COMET METCALF-BREWINGTON (1991a)
Total visual magnitude estimates (cf. IAUC 5166) by A. Hale,
Las Cruces, NM (0.41-m reflector): Jan. 23.12 UT, 9.6; Feb. 5.14,
9.4.
