PERIODIC COMET HALLEY (1986 III)
C. Buil, C. Calvet, E. Thouvenot, and J. F. Touillaud report
that they made 1-hr unfiltered CCD observations of P/Halley with the
0.61-m telescope of Pic du Midi Observatory on Feb. 18 and 19. The
Feb. 18.89 UT image shows a coma about 37" in diameter, slightly
elongated toward the southwest, with the V magnitude inside a 6".75
circle being 21.6; the total magnitude was V about 19.5. On Feb.
19.85 UT, the coma diameter was 25", with V = 21.6 inside 6".75 and
total V = 20.0.
