POSSIBLE NOVA IN CENTAURUS
     W. Liller, Vina del Mar, Chile, reports his discovery of an
apparent nova, found with Problicom on 2415 film at the following
position: R.A. = 13h46m40s, Decl. = -62 54'.6 (equinox 1950.0). He
provides the following magnitudes: Mar. 17.389 UT, [11 (orange
filter); Apr. 2.139 and 2.143, 8.7 (red filter). The object was
confirmed by M. Hamuy at Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory.

NOVA HERCULIS 1991
     M. W. Feast, South African Astronomical Observatory, telexes:
"B. S. Carter obtained the following infrared magnitudes (Carter
system) at the SAAO, Sutherland: Mar. 27.17 UT, J = 5.83, H = 5.64,
K = 5.12, L = 4.29; Mar. 28.16, 6.06, 5.94, 5.40, 4.62; Mar. 29.15,
6.50, 6.54, 5.99, 5.26; Mar. 31.15, 6.86, 6.47, 5.59, 4.74; Apr.
1.15, 6.88, 5.89, 4.81, 3.73. The increasing brightness at K and L
strongly suggest dust formation. This is early and unusual in a
fast nova. Continued monitoring is urged."
     H. Kosai, National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, reports
that K. Tsuchiya (Asahikawa, Hokkaido) has found an image of the
nova at mag about 5.4 on T-Max 400 film exposed on Mar. 24.757 UT
(300-mm f/4 telephoto lens + yellow filter).

CRAF AND PERIODIC COMET TEMPEL 2
     A. Cochran, University of Texas at Austin, reports: "The Comet
Rendezvous/Asteroid Flyby (CRAF) mission has recently changed target
comets from P/Kopff to P/Tempel 2. For mission planning purposes,
various types of data from previous apparitions (especially 1988)
are needed. There will be a special workshop at the Asteroid,
Comets, Meteors 1991 meeting in Flagstaff in June to present and
discuss these data. If you have relevant P/Tempel 2 data, please
inform me (anita@astro.as.utexas.edu), M. A'Hearn (ma@astro.umd.edu)
or P. Feldman (feldman@jhuvms.bitnet). Indicate the type of data,
the dates of observations and whether you will attend the workshop
in Flagstaff. We also encourage observers to continue to obtain
data on P/Tempel 2 when possible."
