Stringfellow, Mount Stromlo Observatory, communicate the following infrared photometry (uncertainty 0.05 in J, H and K, 0.10 in L, 0.20 in M) and spectroscopy, obtained using IRPS and CIGs on the 2.3-m telescope at Siding Spring: Nova Cen 1991. June 22.31 UT, J = 6.65, H = 5.69, K = 4.44, L = 2.58, M = 1.40. A large infrared excess has developed, suggesting the formation of a dust shell. However, no single color temperature adequately characterizes the photometric data. A K spectrum reveals strong H I Br gamma 2.165-micron emission superposed on a red continuum. In the H band, emission from H I Br 10 to 12 is present. Also strong is the H I Paschen beta 1.28-micron line. Nova Oph 1991. June 22.62 UT, J = 10.54, H = 10.70, K = 9.77, L = 9.08. K band spectra reveal weak H I Br gamma emission and stronger He I 2.058-micron emission. Nova Her 1991. June 22.63 UT, J = 13.97, H = 12.86, K = 10.26, L = 7.24. AG CARINAE P. M. Kilmartin, Mount John University Observatory, relays a report from F. M. Bateson to the effect that the S Dor-type variable AG Car (R.A. = 10h54m11s, Decl. = -60 11.2, equinox 1950.0) has been very slowly brightening since July 1990 and appears now to be heading for a novalike outburst similar to that observed in 1963. Recent monthly mean magnitudes, each from about 70 visual observations, are: 1991 Jan., 7.83; Feb., 7.87; Mar., 7.81; Apr., 7.77; May, 7.67; June, 7.60; July to date, 7.52 and rising. NOTICE TO E-MAIL SUBSCRIBERS E-mail subscribers are advised that e-mail delivery of these Circulars requires the use of technology that is still very far from perfect, and some addresses consistently flummox the system. It should be noted that we cannot supply missing e-mail issues. There always exists the possibility of direct logins (although this generally requires the use, either of SPAN/HEPNET, or of a modem), and e-mail subscribers who lack passwords for this should contact the Central Bureau (specifying their account numbers). 1991 July 15 (5307) Brian G.
