Circular No. 6464 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION Postal Address: Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) BMARSDEN@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or DGREEN@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) Phone 617-495-7244/7440/7444 (for emergency use only) COMET C/1996 Q1 (TABUR) The improved parabolic orbital elements below are taken from MPC 27690. J. Jahn, Bodenteich, Germany, notes the very strong resemblance to the orbit (MPC 13459) of comet C/1988 A1 (Liller). As in the case of comets C/1988 F1 and C/1988 J1, it is certain that these objects separated from each other in the general vicinity of their previous perihelion passage, despite the greater temporal separation (with C/1988 A1 = 1988a = 1988 V having T = 1988 Mar. 31 and original period 2900 years). The ephemeris uncertainty for comet C/1996 Q1 in early October is still about 1 deg. T = 1996 Nov. 3.562 TT Peri. = 57.234 Node = 31.516 2000.0 q = 0.84202 AU Incl. = 73.234 1996 TT R. A.
