George Carey (UK) reports his discovery of a possible nova in M31. The object is visible in series of six 600 seconds exposures taken with a 0.2m reflector on 2017-09-09. The object was also just detected on an image taken on 2017-09-08.86 but not on previous library images. Nick James confirms that there is an object at 00 42 58.96 +41 26 27.6 with R magnitude 17.1 (UCAC4-R, C11, FLI CCD) which does not appear on SDSS images.
