This transient was observed on 2013 09 14.149 by Gianluca Masi, Francesca Nocentini and Patrick Schmeer, remotely using the 17" robotic unit part of the Virtual Telescope Project facility in Ceccano, Italy. Unfiltered images show a source at mag. 17.2 (R mags for the reference stars from UCAC-4). We also performed astrometry, getting the following end figures: 45.71s 43.1" (J2000.0, mean residuals of 0.15" on both axes).

Follow-up This possible supernova in IC 1897 was detected with 1 x 15 min images using an infrared filter Photometry: Mag 18.68 +/- 0.27 IR > 700 nm (R for ref) Astrometry: RA 03 10 45.63 Dec -10 47 41.9 These data were collected by Joseph Brimacombe, Coral Towers Observatory, Cairns, Australia.
