Shigehisa Fujikawa, Kan'onji, Kagawa, Japan, reported his discovery of TCP to NAOJ. He discovered it at 19:44 UT on 2018 Nov. 7 and reported it to NAOJ at 21:05 UT. He used a 120-mm F3.5 lens for this discovery.

2018 11 07.8410

Masayuki Iwamoto, Awa, Tokushima, Japan, reported independently his discovery of this object. He discovered it at 2018 11 07.8410 UT using PENTAX SDUF II (D 100mm, F 400mm) + EOS6D. He reported it as a possible comet with positions RA 12h 19m 30s, Dec -02o 11' (equinox J2000) and magnitude 10. He added that he also observed it one minute later and detected no movement.

Progenitor candidates from Gaia DR2 (equinox J2000.0, epoch 2000.0) are located at 12 19 28.182 -02 11 12.05 (= CSS_J121928.2-021112, SDSS J121928.18-021111.9; Gmag. 19.3, distance ~1 kpc) and 12 19 29.909 -02 10 53.37 (= SDSS J121929.90-021053.3; Gmag. 20.3, distance ~0.3 kpc, relatively large proper motion), respectively. --- Patrick Schmeer (Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim, Germany)

New comet! K.Itagaki

2018 11 08.5074

Follow-up of TOCP object TCP J12192806-0211143. Single unfiltered 60 second exposure, obtained remotely on 2018, November 08.5 from H06 (iTelescope network) through a 0.10-m f/5 reflector + CCD, shows that this object is a comet with a diffuse coma about 2 arcmin in diameter. Just sent 3 astrometric positions to MPC with the provisional designation EG0811 by Ernesto Guido

2018 11 08.4999

The likely comet is clearly visible at preliminary position 12 22 39.91 -02 06 14.8 (J2000.0) on a 60s CCD image with green filter taken by Robert Fidrich, Budapest, Hungary on 2018 Nov. 8.4999 UT, using a 0.1-m refractor of the iTelescope Network facility in Mayhill, New Mexico (T20). His image (north up, east left) is available at https://www.dropbox.com/s/vmjhx3rys23ar00/fujikawa_1_crop_t.jpg?dl=0 --- Patrick Schmeer (Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim, Germany)

This new object is a comet. Position: C2018 11 08.52108 12 22 44.04 -02 05 57.8, Mag.=13.5U, Dia.=1.8'. See http://space.geocities.jp/yusastar77/comet/newcomet181109.htm Obs:T. Yusa, Osaki, JAPAN.

This new comet is now listed on the the NEO(!) Confirmation Page as "DM001" (DM = Donald Edward "Don" Machholz): https://www.minorplanetcenter.net/iau/NEO/toconfirm_tabular.html. Please note that the Minor Planet Center is responsible for collecting comet observations, and that independent discoveries must be reported to the MPC immediately in order to get discovery credit (reporting to the Transient Objects Confirmation Page is not sufficient). Potential independent discoverers (e.g. Fujikawa-san, Iwamoto-san) of this comet are advised to report their observations as soon as possible to mpc@cfa.harvard.edu --- Patrick Schmeer (Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim, Germany)

2018 11 08.830

DM001 has been moved to the Possible Comet Confirmation Page (PCCP): https://minorplanetcenter.net/iau/NEO/pccp_tabular.html --- Patrick Schmeer (Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim, Germany)
