Discovered by T. Kobayashi, Fukui-ken, Japan, on four frames using Sony Alpha digital camera + 80-mm f/2.0 lens, who writes nothing is visible at this location on two night frames taken on 2016 May 27 and June 2 (same instrument, limiting mag.= 12.5). But he found a star (mag.= 9.4) on four frames taken on 2016 June 5.604 UT with 85-mm f/1.4 lens.

Object is minor planet (8) Flora.

Precise position of 17 27 51.37, -17 56 04.6 was measured from a discovery image (but not Good for measurement). On the other hand, (8) is then located at 17 25 37.36, -17 57 49.5 with the residuals of +0.53 and +0.03 deg. So that this PN is not identical with (8).

Quotes: "But he found a star (mag.= 9.4) on four frames taken on 2016 June 5.604 UT with 85-mm f/1.4 lens." and "Precise position of 17 27 51.37, -17 56 04.6 was measured from a discovery image" --- (8) Flora (9.4 mag) was at exactly this position on 2016 June 5.594 UT, so the "star (mag.= 9.4)" was probably the minor planet. However, (8) Flora was indeed 0.5 deg west of the two reported positions on 2016 June 7.618 UT. --- Patrick Schmeer (Bischmisheim, Germany)
