McCallister have recovered this comet with the Steward Observatory's 229-cm reflector on Kitt Peak. The comet is of stellar appearance and the magnitude somewhat uncertain due to clouds. Position and motion are consistent with the prediction (IAUC 2291). 1970 UT R.A. (1950) Decl. m2 Dec. 25.30839 6 27.08 +12 27.8 21.0 25.35272 6 27.04 +12 27.9 COMET CHURYUMOV (1970n) Kiev. Komet. Tsirk. No. 112 gives additional information about the cometary object reported by K. I. Churyumov during a visit to the Abastumani Observatory (cf. IAUC 2290). The object, of magnitude 8 to 8.5, was first noted on Nov. 21.7 UT in the general vicinity of mu and nu Oph and zeta and eta Ser, but the position could not be measured due to clouds. On Nov. 22.7 the object was observed for about an hour and an approximate position determined: the field was also compared with the Lick photographic atlas. Clouds prevented any observations the next night. There was considerable interference from clouds on Nob. 24.7 also, but it was clear that no diffuse object appeared at the position occupied by the object two nights before. The position reported for Nov. 24.7 is to be rejected, a group of faint stars having been mistaken for the comet. Several unfavorable nights followed, but a wide search of the area on Nov. 30 did not reveal any comet. COMET BENNETT (1969i) The following precise positions have been reported: 1970 UT R.A.
