Circular No. 2868 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION Postal Address: Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. Cable Address: SATELLITES, NEWYORK Western Union: RAPID SATELLITE CAMBMASS COMET BRADFIELD (1975p) The following positions have been reported: 1975 UT R. A. Moore (Joint Observatory for Cometary Research). Measurer: E. Tedesco. B Sumner (Windsor, Queensland). 15-cm f/4 reflector, 27 x. Diffuse, circular, small spot, diameter 3'; no condensation. D. Herald (Kambah, near Canberra). Scaled position. The above positions show that the suggestion that the comet is a member of the Kreutz sungrazing group (IAUC 2866) cannot be upheld, although it does seem that the comet's perihelion distance is rather small. In spite of the comet's rapid motion, the departure from great-circle motion is no more than 6", and the following orbital elements, by the undersigned, are particularly uncertain: T = 1975 Dec. 21.29 ET Peri. = 357.77 Node = 270.41 1950.0 q = 0.2219 AU Incl. = 70.46 1975 ET R.
