NOVALIKE X-RAY SOURCE IN NORMA
     G. Clark and F. Li, Massachusetts Institute of Technology,
report that the SAS-3 Observatory has recorded a novalike increase in
the x-ray flux from a source located in Norma within a 90-percent-confidence
error circle of radius 0o.5 centered at R.A. = 16h09m,
Decl. = -52o.4 (equinox 1950.0). The position determination is consistent
with that of the previously reported persistent source MX1608-52 =
4U 1608-52, as well as with that of a burst source (cf. IAUC 2932,
2936). The flux began to increase about July 5.7 UT, reached a
value of 4 x 10**-8 erg cm**-2 s**-1 (~ 1.1 times the Crab) in the energy
range 1-10 keV on July 8.0 and declined slowly to 3 x 10**-8 erg cm**-2
s**-1 on July 9.0 and 2 x 10**-8 erg cm**-2 s**-1 on July 10.5. On July 7
the flux varied on a timescale of seconds. Optical observers are
urged to search for an optical nova counterpart.

1977 HB
The following precise positions were obtained by A. C. Gilmore
with the 41-cm reflector at the Carter Observatory. Measurer:
P. M. Kilmartin. The second exposure was affected by increasing
cloud, and the image is weak and trailed.

     1977 UT R. A. (1950) Decl. Mag.
     May 21.43152 12 58 38.61 -17 14 17.3 16.7
          21.47613 12 58 35.87 -17 14 30.8

     C. Kowal, Hale Observatories, informs us that the time of his
observation on IAUC 3080 should be changed to May 17.18281 UT.

PERIODIC COMET TAYLOR (1977a)
The following precise positions have been measured by J. H.
Bulger from exposures by C.-Y. Shao and G. Schwartz with the 155-cm
reflector at Harvard Observatory's Aqassiz Station:

     1977 UT R. A. (1950) Decl.
     Mar. 22.09994 7 01 51.59 +33 50 14.8
     Apr. 14.04760 7 42 25.99 +34 16 30.5
          16.04983 7 46 18.78 +34 14 05.1
