2A 0526-328
     R. Thomas, J. Greenhill and 0. Watts, University of Tasmania,
communicate: "We report observations with the Anglo-Australian Telescope
of variability in the He II 4686 A and other emission lines in
the AM Her-like candidate of Charles et al. (IAUC 3298) for 2A
0526-328, confirming the x-ray identification. Line profiles showed
complex variations during 2.5 hr of observation at 33 A/mm dispersion.
Velocity measurements indicate a period considerably longer than
2.5 hr. Our position for the star is R.A. = 5h27m34s.6, Decl. = -32o51'21"
(equinox 1950.0)."

OPTICAL/X-RAY OBSERVATIONS OF X-RAY BURST SOURCES
     W. Lewin and J. van Paradijs, Massachusetts Institute of Technology;
M. Oda, University of Tokyo; and K. Pounds, University of
Leicester, report that SAS 3 will probably re-enter in 1979 Apr.
It can therefore not participate in the scheduled simultaneous
optical/x-ray observatiQns of x-ray burst sources (IAUC 3252) - with
the possible exception of the period Apr. 19 to May 3. However,
the Japanese satellite, Hakucho, launched successfully on Feb. 21
(in preparation for observations), and the British satellite UK 6
(pending successful launch near May 26) will make the necessary
observations during the major part of the four scheduled periods of
two weeks each. M.I.T. will act as a coordinator during these
observations, and they will inform all known optical participants of
the necessary details. They urge all interested optical observers
who have not yet contacted them to do so immediately (telex 92-1473
MIT CAM; telephone 617-253-4282, Lewin; 617-253-5827, van Paradijs).
This is of particular importance since during some of the times
mentioned on IAUC 3252 Hakucho and UK 6 will not be available for
burst observations. The final observing program, including the
times during which there will be no x-ray coverage, will be announced
in future Circulars. In addition, the participants known
to the M.I.T. group will be contacted directly.
