Circular No. 3526 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION Postal Address: Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. TWX 710-320-6842 ASTROGRAM CAM Telephone 617-864-5758 U GEMINORUM J. Mattei, AAVSO, communicates the following visual magnitude estimates of a new outburst: Oct. 8.42 UT, 13.3 (E. Mayer, Barberton, OH); 8.53, 13.1 (J. Morgan, Prescott, AZ); 9.52, 9.3 (Morgan). PERIODIC COMET ENCKE The following precise position has been measured by C.-Y. Shao from a plate taken by G. Schwartz at Harvard's Agassiz Station: 1980 UT R. A. (1950) Decl. m2 Oct. 8.36310 5 04 09.27 +50 32 37.2 16.5 The 9-min exposure with the 1.5-m reflector shows the comet as a strong condensation in a weak fan coma. This and the Aug. 13 Agassiz position (MPC 5485) indicate that the correction to the prediction on MPC 5129 is Delta-T = -0.0006 +/- 0.0003 day (see also IAUC 3521). (1862) APOLLO It seems not to be generally known that this object will make a close approach to the earth next month. The following ephemeris ss extracted from MPC 5328. A 10-day ephemeris from Nov. 17 onward is also given in the 1981 Efemeridy Malykh Planet (page 221). 1980 ET R. A. (1950) Decl. Delta r Mag.
