AM HERCULIS AND AN URSAE MAJORIS
A. M. Magalhaes, Vatican Observatory Research Group and
University of Sao Paulo; and S. Tapia, Steward Observatory, report that
these two magnetic binaries have both recently drifted to their low
states (cf. IAUC 3689, 3693). The following mean magnitudes have
been obtained at the University of Arizona observatories: AM Her,
Mar. 6, I = 12.7; Mar. 20, V = 13.0; Apr. 16, V = 15.3, V-R = +0.5,
R-I = +0.6; Apr. 19, V = 15.3; AN UMa, Mar. 20, V = 18.0, B-V = 0.0;
Apr. 20, V = 18.2. The circular polarization of AM Her in the I
band has remained negative throughout the cycle, while the amplitude
changed from -15 percent on Mar. 6 to -10 percent on Apr. 16.
