COMET URATA-NIIJIMA (1986o)
T. Seki, Geisei, notes that his observations on Nov. 3 of the
object called 1986 UD on IAUC 4267 show a very faint and diffuse
coma surrounding a central condensation, and T. Urata (who discovered
the object on exposures at Ojima by T. Niijima using a 0.30-m
f/5.8 reflector) now confirms the object's cometary nature. Further

J. Mattei, AAVSO, reports that this R CrB-type star, which
last had a fading from 1982 Nov. to 1983 Dec., has started another
decline. Visual magnitude estimates: Oct. 26.34 UT, 10.2 (P.
Collins, Tucson, AZ); 27.18, 10.4 (K. Medway, Southampton,
England); 28.40, 10.3 (Collins); 30.23, 10.5 (E. Mayer, Barberton,
OH); 31.42, 10.8 (Collins); Nov. 2.04, 10.8 (Medway); 2.44, 10.7
(R. Hays, Worth, IL); 3.36, 10.9 (J. Griese, Stamford, CT).
