Circular No. 4286 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION Postal Address: Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. TWX 710-320-6842 ASTROGRAM CAM Telephone 617-495-7244/7440/7444 V1302 AQUILAE (IRC +10420) C. E. Irvine, Monterey Institute for Research in Astronomy, communicates: "Reticon spectra of IRC +10420 (V1302 Aql) taken between 1986 July 3 and Nov. 3 on the 0.9-m telescope show strong new emission features: H-alpha; Ca II triplet (849.8, 854.2, 866.3 nm); and [Ca II] (729.1 and 732.3 nm). Coude spectra taken by G. H. Herbig on the 3-m Shane reflector at Lick Observatory on 1972 Nov. 18 show only weak emission wings at H-alpha and no Ca II triplet emission. Humphreys et al. (1973, Ap.J. 179, L49) did not report any emission in their blue and near-infrared spectra, from which it was classified as an F8 supergiant. Fix (1981, Ap.J. 248, 542) did not report any emission in his 500-800-nm spectra obtained in 1980. CCD spectra obtained by Herbig on 1986 Dec. 9 and 10 on the 3-m Lick telescope, with a resolution of 0.05 nm, show H-alpha and the Ca II triplet to have central reversals. The [Ca II] lines do not show reversals. These and the MIRA spectra show emission features for which the preliminary indentifications include Fe II, [Fe II], [Ni II], and [O II]." NOVA ANDROMEDAE 1986 D. L. King, Royal Greenwich Observatory, provides an accurate position that is identical to that on IAUC 4282 except in seconds of R.A. (47s.60); he further notes that there is a star of mpg about 17.8 in this position on the Palomar Sky Survey blue exposure. C. C. Huang, Purple Mountain Observatory, reports that spectroscopic observations on Dec. 10 revealed very wide, strong H-beta, H-gamma, H-delta, and H-epsilon emission and sharp interstellar H and K lines. Further visual magnitude estimates (cf. IAUC 4282), provided in part by J. Mattei, AAVSO: Dec. 10.14 UT, 7.0 (A. Hale, Las Cruces, NM); Dec. 10.517, 7.1 (Y. Sugiyama, Hiratsuka, Japan); 12.11, 7.3 (C. Stephan, Sebring, FL); 13.12, 7.8 (P. Collins, Tucson, AZ); 14.16, 7.9 (D. Megginson, St. Charles, MO); 15.04, 7.3 (Stephan). SUPERNOVA 1986L IN NGC 1559 Further visual magnitude estimates (cf. IAUC 4270) by R. H. McNaught, reported via J. A. Mattei, AAVSO: Nov. 1.58 UT, 13.8; 4.48, 14.0; 5.44, 14.5; 8.71, 14.3; 9.69, 14.3; 21.50, 14.3; 24.48, 14.4; 28.60, 14.8; Dec. 2.60, 14.9; 4.57, 14.8; 11.73, 15.3. 1986 December 17 (4286) Daniel W.
