H. McNaught reports that a 30-min J exposure by D. Waldon on Jan. 29.45 UT with the U.K. Schmidt telescope shows a narrow 100' gas tail in p.a. 93 deg and a dust fan from this point, through p.a. 180 deg, increasing in intensity and length to 15' in p.a. 238 deg. Further total visual magnitude estimates: Jan. 27.84 UT, 8.5 (J. Campos, Warner Beach, R.S.A., 0.13-m refractor); 29.44, 7.2 (D. Seargent, The Entrance, N.S.W., 15x80 binoculars); Feb. 1.11, 7.5 (C. S. Morris, Lockwood Valley, CA, 20x80 binoculars; 4.41, 8.0 (J. Kobayashi, Kumamoto, Japan, 0.31-m refl.); 6.44, 8.3 (Seargent); 18.14, 8.7 (Morris, Whitaker Peak, CA, 0.26-m reflector). NOVA HERCULIS 1987 H. Kosai, Tokyo Astronomical Observatory, reports that a prediscovery photograph by M. Honda on Jan. 22.85 UT yields mv = 8.8. Visual magnitude estimates (cf.
